World’s Leading Auction House to Auction One of the World’s Oldest Fine Wines

Acker will auction what could be the oldest, available fine wine in the world – a vintage 1863 Niepoort in Lalique crystal decanter. The first of the limited-edition decanters will be auctioned by Acker Merrall & Condit in Hong Kong in early November, but there has been no word on estimates for each lot.

The decanters are numbered, signed, and contain vintage Port from an original demijohn decanter that was filled in the early 1900s with an 1863 vintage port. Lalique designed the decanter off of the original 1905 demijohn which was made using the cire perdue method, one of the oldest methods used in glass production. The decanter is presented in a Macassar ebony wood cabinet with crystal inlays in the Lalique grape pattern. Gorgeous doesn’t even come close to describing this treasure.

Unbelievable Fall Line-Up Planned

As one of the most exciting years so far, our record-setting pace is expected to only continue as demand increases. We have been working on our Fall events which will be starting off with a huge bang with our Extraordinary Wines Extraordinary Cellars live online and in-person auction in New York City. This auction has over 1500 lots and is filled with incredible treasures, starting with the largest Wilf Jaeger collection yet – over 400 lots (Lots 916 – 1350) spanning from 1920 forward.

Our second collection (Lots 741 – 915) from a European bon vivant collector starts with a 1955 La Mission, a jeroboam of 1988 Le Pin and a 1959 Latour and it only gets better from there, including six collections that contain an encyclopedia of glorious vintages and producers. The auction begins September 7 online and finishes September 8 at the Marea in New York.

Other fall events we have planned include a spectacular auction in Hong Kong, some of the best Wine Workshops we have ever created, and plenty of tasting events.

One thing is for sure: It doesn’t matter the time of year- there’s always something good going on at Acker Merrall & Condit.
